Overview

This unit deals with the fundamentals of Australian Migration law, the role of migration agents and the application of migration law and policy. It will cover the history of Australian migration law. The development and structure of Australia’s immigration system legislation and policy and the establishment of the Migration Agent profession. It examines the fundamentals of Australia's visa system including making valid visa application procedures for decision-making and general requirements for most visas. There are 3 modules to be completed:

Module 1 - Introduction to the Regulatory framework affecting migration agents

Module 2 - Introduction to Australian Law and Legal Research & Writing

Module 3 - Introduction to Australian Migration Law

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate the relationship between the various levels of legislation, case law and policy and the Australian immigration system through interpretation and application of Australian migration law in a variety of scenarios.
  2. Research current and relevant information from a range of sources to develop and deliver effective migration advice.
  3. Demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant legislation to provide advice on procedures for valid visa applications.
  4. Critically analyse and discuss the role and regulation of migration agents
  5. Formulate communication strategies and documents addressing key stakeholders including clients.
