    (Or equivalent to be determined by unit coordinator)


    Paramedicine students will apply their skills within a workplace integrated learning environment. Students will undertake clinical placement with industry partners, such as ambulance services, under the guidance and supervision of Registered Paramedics and health care professionals. Students will have the opportunity to participate in safe, effective and appropriate communication with patients and to practice as culturally safe and capable clinicians. Students will have the opportunity to apply, integrate and develop their theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Students will be exposed to patient records and practice documentation and intra/interprofessional communications. Throughout clinical placement, students will engage in critical reflection, to stimulate continued student development.

    Learning Outcomes

    On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

    1. Apply the principles of culturally safe practice to the care of individuals irrespective of culture, values, beliefs, and socio-economic status across the lifespan;
    2. Apply a person-centred approach, in the context of paramedicine, demonstrating effective communication within the health care setting;
    3. Demonstrate competency in safely assessing and managing patients with a range of conditions, relevant to their scope of practice;
    4. Contexualise the impact of the relevant code of conduct in clinical decision making, including Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) legislation and regulatory requirements; and
    5. Engage in reflection and respond appropriately to feedback regarding performance and behaviour.
