Overview

This unit builds upon participant knowledge and skills in contemporary learning design to identify and optimise potential learning affordances across learning environments relevant to their practice. Participants choose to review physical learning environments, including work/community-based settings/simulated spaces, laboratories and field trips, and/or virtual environments. Using an inquiry-led approach, participants will explore the space, place, and mode of delivery relevant to their practice. Participants will draw upon contemporary literature to inform designs and approaches suitable for diverse learners in these contexts. Participants will utilise the potential learning affordances of relevant learning environments to inform the design and development of an online authentic learning experience for either a regular period of study or an intensive mode of study such as the VU Block Model.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically review contemporary learning environments with a focus on maximising learning affordances;
  2. Propose and justify a constructively aligned learning design;
  3. Recommend and respond to constructive feedback regarding learning design; and
  4. Create an authentic, learner-centred online product supported by relevant digital learning tools informed by learning design principles
  5. Participate in an academic community through reflective and critical engagement in academic texts and understanding of principles of academic integrity.
