Overview

The aim of this unit is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the mental health knowledge and skills developed in 'HNB3227 Mental Health and Nursing’ in a mental health setting. Students are required to complete 160 hours in a mental health setting.



Students in this unit are advised that restrictions apply to withdrawing online once enrolled, to meet the requirements of external placement providers.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Apply relevant knowledge and skills and utilise a problem solving approach to the nursing management of individuals with mental health issues.
  2. Advocate the legislative and ethical foundations of mental health care and treatment.
  3. Exhibit safe medication administration.
  4. Utilise culturally appropriate psychotherapeutic communication, assessment and intervention strategies in the mental health setting and during crisis.
