Overview

This unit enables students to critically analyse and reflect on knowledge and skills gained in previous studies to research, investigate and develop new knowledge. Students work independently to introduce a topic, formulate an investigation, draw conclusions and submit a suitably formatted thesis or performance. The thesis would normally be assessed by at least two expert examiners from an appropriate area of expertise. At the beginning of semester students may be required to attend some lectures.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an integrated and comprehensive understanding of literature relating to an approved topic;
  2. Critically analyse and reflect on information and research with the aim of contributing to a new body of knowledge or practice;
  3. Interpret and disseminate research information to a range of informed and lay audiences; and
  4. Utilise specialised cognitive and technical skills to independently plan, design and produce a minor research thesis.
