Lecturer in psychology and researcher Dr Kara Dadswell completed the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education to develop her skills and knowledge in teaching practice.
“I was already teaching at VU’s First Year College when I enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education here. I chose the course because it provided a professional-development opportunity for me, which would also greatly enhance my students' learning experience.
I love the culture at VU. After taking my undergraduate and PhD studies here, it feels like home.
The course was so relatable and linked to my day-to-day work in the classroom. It was great to be able to use the resources in practical ways in my teaching right from the start. Being able to observe my colleagues’ teaching practices and then reflect on my own was also really beneficial.
I have three children and a full-time job, so time was sometimes an issue, but I have found that there are lots of really supportive people at VU and help is at hand if you ask for it.
I am now a Teaching and Research Academic in the College of Health and Biomedicine and I would like to continue to grow my career in academia. There are so many diverse opportunities in a place like VU.”
