VU and Global Performance Testing have teamed up to give students the edge – through training and work experience in performance-data collection.

Global Performance Testing (GPT) Australia provides human-performance testing services, delivering data to schools, clubs, sporting organisations, health institutes and research centres worldwide.

Through project-based collaboration with VU’s start-up stimulator, Business School and College of Sport and Exercise Science, GPT Australia’s CEO Graham Dudley has discovered that VU students bring a real-world view to the business.

“Through the partnership with VU, we offer opportunities for students to gain training, education and employment in human-performance data collection and interpretation.

"We also train and accredit students for paid employment in different fields of sport and exercise science.

"VU integrates learning from work and life experiences into education, so that each student can forge their own pathway and engage with industry. The University consciously works towards an outcome where the student can move in their preferred direction with support. In our experience, we have found that VU students have a realistic view of the world and can express themselves with authority and knowledge."

Hear from VU students placed with GPT

Sarah Wieck, a German international student, completed a Diploma of Business (Enterprise) and is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Business (International Trade/Human Resource Management). Through the Business Integrated Learning unit, Sarah is interning with GPT Australia.

“It’s helpful to understand my studies within the ‘real world’ of business. It’s also nice to do hands-on work and to put theories that I studied in my course in context. This internship will prepare me for my future career path.

"The best thing about studying at VU is that I met so many open-minded people from different cultures. I love the group assignments in my course where we are tasked to set up a project for a possible business and are treated as if we are in the real workforce presenting research and analysis.”

Melissa Kirby, a third-year Bachelor of Sport Science student, is currently working for Global Performance Testing as a test assistant.

“VU tutors and lecturers are great. The way they teach is hands-on and interactive. Pracs help increase knowledge first hand and everyone at VU is there to help you achieve your best in any way possible.

"Through my course I am also completing a placement as a video analyst with Melbourne Victory Academy. This is opening up a new field of knowledge which will be useful in the future.

"Working for GPT in behind-the-scenes testing and data analysis was a major goal. Once I complete my degree I hope to continue working with GPT as a sports scientist.”
