To keep the VU community safe, and to play our part in containing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), we continue to plan for a gradual and staged return to campus across 2021.

The majority of our courses will continue to be delivered in digital and remote mode until further notice later in the year. However a small number of classes require on campus attendance.

Current & new students

If you are a current student or are commencing your studies, please check your VU student email regularly for details on your course and any changes to teaching and learning arrangements as decisions are made.

If you have received an email from a college or teaching staff member to advise you that a class or unit is being delivered on campus, please follow that advice.

If you have not received an email advising you of a class or unit being taught on campus, then your classes will be taught in digital and remote mode. You will not be required to attend campus until further notice.

Higher education students will continue in digital and remote mode, unless you have been contacted by your college with advice of planned on-campus learning activity for Summer Block. Please continue to check your VU student email for information on classes that will be delivered on campus in Semester 1.

Vocational Education (TAFE) students at VU Polytechnic will receive further communication from teaching staff regarding on-campus learning and any changes as they occur.

Attend classes through Zoom classrooms

For most Block classes that previously required in-person attendance, you are expected to attend remotely and as scheduled through Zoom classrooms.

It’s still the same VU Block classroom environment – but you’ll view and attend it online.

Highlights of this method:

  • Teachers will share material through screen-sharing.
  • There’ll be a small number of students in each virtual classroom.
  • You’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask questions, get feedback and interact with classmates.

Your teacher will share clear instructions on VU Collaborate about any changes to the delivery of your unit, including whether your class will be run on Webex or Zoom.

Your VU Collaborate learning space also includes a range of other learning tools and materials to support you in your studies.

You can use the group and chat functions to chat to classmates and plan group assignments.

Classes in labs or spaces that can’t be replicated online

We have emailed a small number of students whose classes or labs can’t be delivered online. We have given them details on how their courses will be delivered or impacted.

All university activities, including classes, will continue to be managed and delivered in accordance with government advice on physical distancing.
