Our efforts to expand online learning during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic created new options for course delivery.

With the benefits well-proven, we will continue to offer online learning – in real-time classes and via self-paced activities – along with in-person study where possible, now and into the future.

New delivery modes

VU is working to ensure that the achievements and adaptability of students and staff are reflected in our ongoing delivery modes for the future.

Victoria University delivery

These delivery modes are:

  • In person: Your unit or classes will be delivered on the campus you have enrolled in. The timetable will display “On Campus” and provide the room where the classes will be held and you will physically attend those classes. All learning activity delivered on campus will continue to be run under strict COVID-19 safe practices.*
  • Online real-time: Your unit or classes will be delivered online using Zoom. The timetable will display “Online Real Time (ZOOM)” and you will attend scheduled classes remotely through Zoom classrooms.
  • Online self-paced: You will participate in learning activities online over that period but not at a set time. You will be able to conduct these activities at a time that suits you, providing those activities are completed by the required time. Your timetable will display “Online Self-Paced”.
  • Hybrid: Part of your unit will be delivered in person on the campus you have enrolled in, with the remainder delivered in an online mode. The timetable will state which classes or activities in the unit will be delivered on campus and which classes or activities will be online, in either real-time or self-paced mode.

Your unit will show whether it is delivered wholly online real-time, online self-paced or in person. If your unit is delivered in hybrid mode, each class within the unit will show whether it is delivered in person or online. Please be sure to check all the individual classes in your unit.

*Students whose classes or labs can’t be delivered online will be emailed details on how their courses will be delivered or impacted.

VU Polytechnic delivery

Face to face: Your classes, learning and assessment will be delivered with your teacher either on campus or in a virtual classroom.
Online: Your classes, learning and assessment will be delivered solely online in either a virtual class, other online learning collaborations and/or independent eLearning. This could be in real-time or self-paced.
Workplace: Usually, your learning and assessment will be solely in the workplace. At times, you may also access classes, learning and assessment in the workplace, on-campus or in a virtual classroom and/or independent eLearning.
Face to face | eLearning | workplace: You may participate in a combination of delivery modes, including face to face with your teacher on campus or in a virtual classroom, with additional independent eLearning and/or work placements.

Current & new students

If you are a current student or are commencing your studies, please check your VU student email regularly for details on your course and any changes to teaching and learning arrangements as decisions are made.

If you have received an email from a college or teaching staff member to advise you that a class or unit is being delivered in in person or hybrid mode on campus, please follow that advice.

If you have not received an email advising you of a class or unit being taught on campus, then your classes will be taught in online real-time or online self-paced modes. You will not be required to attend campus until further notice.

Vocational Education (TAFE) students at VU Polytechnic will receive further communication from teaching staff regarding in person learning and any changes as they occur.
