Overview

Gain the professional and personal skills to succeed in the global sport business industry with a Master of Sport Business and Integrity at Victoria University.

This course prepares you for the pressures and complexity of contemporary sport management. You will gain high-level skills and knowledge to implement and deliver sport programs that:

With integrity an increasing concern in global sport business, this course will prepare you for expanding career opportunities in the industry.

You will develop business skills – policy, strategy, management – with a clear understanding of the unique challenges of the sport industry. In addition, practical and industry experience (notably through our partnership with the Real Madrid Graduate School Universidad Europea) will ensure you are a highly competent and confident graduate.

You will have the opportunity to travel to Spain and get behind-the-scenes access to the Real Madrid Football Club. We have a unique partnership with the Real Madrid Graduate School Universidad Europea that will give you access to the club as part of a two-week residential program.

Our Master of Sport Business and Integrity is a leading-edge course, developed using ‘integrity’ to inform all aspects of the course. This is the only course in Australia that examines sport business with an integrity focus, and one of only a few globally.

This course is taught by our leading academic staff with extensive industry experience, supported in many units with input from and delivery by leading sport industry professionals. Our highly qualified staff include sport lawyers, sport ethicists, sport economists, sport policy analysts, sport management educators, sport marketers, sport project managers, and sport community partnership directors.

Learning within the Master of Sport Business and Integrity is dynamic and accessible. The curriculum is designed to ensure you get the most out of your studies, and uses multiple delivery modes, including:

You will have the opportunity to undertake professional-level research that can lead to doctoral studies. If you wish to start working sooner, you may also be able to exit early with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma.

Our Master of Sport Business and Integrity will ensure you have the broad skillset necessary for a successful career in the global sport industry. There are tremendous business and personal growth opportunities around the world as leaders, administrators, managers and officials.

You will be equipped to add to the public value of the sport industry through working in sport integrity, community partnerships, media and communications, facilities and events, and many other opportunities domestically and globally.

In complex organisations undergoing constant change, you will be prepared for a range of sport business management and leadership roles in:

The average annual salary for general managers in Australia is $104,000 (JobOutlook). The average annual salary of a sports centre manager in Australia is $64,428 (JobOutlook).

Course structure

To attain the Master of Sport Business and Integrity, students will be required to complete 144 credit points consisting of:

  • 120 credit points core units
  • 24 credit points from the options below

OPTION 1

  • 12 credit points sport business project unit; and,
  • 12 credit points elective unit. Students to select from any postgraduate units across the university. Please check any pre-requisite requirements prior to enrolling.

OPTION 2

  • 24 credit points thesis unit.

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Synthesise conceptual understandings of strategic management with advanced specialist knowledge in the field of sport integrity.  
  2. Evaluate the nature of illegal, corrupt, and anti-social conduct in sport, and how it threatens the credibility and integrity of sport.  
  3. Critically apply legal and ethical principles to decision making processes when dealing with problematic issues in sport.  
  4. Design, justify, and implement strategic initiatives - involving structural, cultural and operational change - that enables sporting enterprises to implement policies and practices that grow the sport by placing integrity in the forefront.  
  5. Creatively utilise cross-disciplinary knowledge and high quality sport research to build partnerships, attract resources, and build systems for attracting diverse groups of participants.  

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take and optional elective units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Credits

Each unit is worth a set amount of study credits based on the amount of time you study. Generally, 1 credit is equal to 1 hour of study per week.

Entry requirements

Completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a similar discipline
OR
Completion of an Australian Graduate Certificate (or equivalent) in a similar discipline
PLUS
IELTS (or equivalent): Overall score of 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking)
