A high achiever in hairdressing

National hairdressing award-winner, Jessie McAllister, gained a well-rounded education through her VU-based apprenticeship.

"I completed my hairdressing apprenticeship at Victoria University as a work-based training student. VU was chosen by my mentor who believes it is the best institute for salon training because of its focus on on-the-job training.

My greatest career achievement so far has been winning the Apprentice of the Year 2015 award at Hair Expo Australia, the biggest trade event in the Southern Hemisphere for the hairdressing industry. As the winner, I gave a live model presentation on the main stage and was interviewed by industry icon, Benni Tognini.

The best thing about my course at VU was working with Jacinta Ramsay in VU’s hair, make-up and beauty. She’s an amazing teacher and educator. Thanks to the teaching and guidance I have received, I now have an amazing level of understanding and technical skills in relation to everything hair.

My next goal would be to travel around Australia telling my story to younger teens in hopes to inspire them to choose hairdressing. In my opinion and the opinions of those around me in industry, hairdressing is an amazing career option."
