University Basketball League
The University Basketball League Australia (UBL) returns in 2026, and this time it's bigger and better than ever, with more universities added to the mix!
The men's and women's competitions will tip off on 12 August 2026 and will feature home and away games, followed by finals, and culminating in grand finals.

Meet the coaches
Elias Palioyiannis - Women's Head Coach
Elias brings more than 24 years of elite coaching experience across NBL1, BIG V, representative and school basketball programs. Currently serving as the Senior Coaching Director and Head Coach of the NBL1 Women’s and Men’s programs at Waverley Basketball Association, Elias has coached over 500 games and has built a reputation as one of Victoria’s premier basketball minds.
Prior to his NBL1 success, Elias spent eight years as Coaching Director and Head Coach of Waverley’s BIG V programs, guiding multiple teams to championship success and finals appearances. He has also played a major role in representative basketball development since 2001, coaching Victorian Championship teams, VJBL Championship sides and National Junior Classic campaigns.
Elias is widely respected for his leadership, player development expertise and ability to build high-performance team cultures.
Geremy McKay - Men’s Head Coach

Geremy McKay is a passionate and experienced basketball coach with a proven track record of developing talent and building winning teams. A former professional player in the NBL with South East Melbourne Phoenix, New Zealand Breakers and Otago Nuggets. Geremy also earned All-American honors during his collegiate career at Vanguard University.
His coaching experience includes roles as Assistant Coach for the NBL1 Melbourne Tigers and Head Coach for their Youth League Championship Team. Currently, he serves as Academy Coach at Port Melbourne Secondary College and works as a private skills-development coach for youth athletes.
Geremy holds an MBA in Leadership from RMIT and combines his deep knowledge of the game with strong leadership, communication and team-building skills. His focus on player development and strategic excellence continues to make a lasting impact at every level he coaches.
