Letter of Completion
A Letter of Completion is an official statement from the University that is sent to students once their eligibility to graduate is confirmed.
If you require a Letter of Completion urgently for employment or further study purposes, you need to let us know when you apply to graduate. You can do so by providing a reason on your online graduation application or the hardcopy form, explaining why you need the Letter of Completion processed urgently. Once approval has been received from the relevant College, a Letter of Completion will be posted to you.
Please allow at least two to three weeks to receive your letter.
A fee of AUD$15.00 applies if you have previously graduated and require an additional or replacement Letter of Completion.
Academic transcript
An academic transcript is a true account of your results achieved at Victoria University. Graduating students are able to obtain one Academic Transcript listing the award you have received at VU free of charge for a four week period after your graduation ceremony.
Student exchange and study abroad students
If you are an international student exchange student from one of VU’s exchange partner institutions, your transcript will be sent directly to the International Department at your home institution.
If you are a study abroad student from a non-partner institution, your transcript will be sent to your home address.
Testamur (or award)
A Testamur (known also as 'award') is the certificate you receive at your graduation ceremony. If you do not attend the ceremony and graduate 'in absentia', your award can be posted to you or collected at a later date from any of our Student Service Centres.
It includes:
- the Victoria University seal
- your name (as per your student enrolment record, unless otherwise indicated)
- your course name
- the graduation (conferral) date.
Name printed on award
The name printed on your award will be identical to the name on your student enrolment record. Any variation to your name will require you to complete and submit a Personal details amendment form with supporting documentation, either original or certified copy.
When you submit your amendment form (whether by mail, fax, or in person at a Student Service Centre) you must advise that a copy needs to be sent to the Graduation office.
Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS)
The Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) was introduced to make Australian qualifications recognised and renowned throughout the world.
The AHEGS describes a higher education qualification in an easily understandable way, relating it to the system in which it was issued. It describes qualifications in a clear and consistent way to potential employers and other higher education institutions.
From October 2012, eligible Victoria University higher education graduates will receive an AHEGS.
The AHEGS contains the following information:
- your personal details such as name, student number
- details of your award, including admission requirements, duration of study, language of instruction and Australian Qualifications Framework level
- details about Victoria University, including establishment, provider category and listing on the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency National Register of Higher Education Providers
- details of your academic achievements, including details of units of study undertaken toward this award
- description of the Australian Higher Education System – a comprehensive summary of the Australia system.
The AHEGS is additional to other documentation, such as testamurs and academic transcripts.
How to obtain your AHEGS
- if you attend a graduation ceremony you will receive your AHEGS at the ceremony
- if you graduate 'in absentia' and elect to have your Testamur posted (fee applies), you will also receive your AHEGS in the post
- if you graduate in absentia and elect to collect your Testamur from a Student Service Centre (SSC) you will also receive your AHEGS from the SSC.

You can obtain additional copies of your AHEGS for $15 each.
