Campbell Rose AM is a distinguished Australian sports administrator, Olympian and business leader whose career spans elite sport, major events and public service.
Growing up in Melbourne, Campbell attended Melbourne Grammar School where he excelled across several sports. He was part of the school’s winning 1982 Head of the River rowing crew and served as vice-captain of the First XV rugby team before focusing on competitive sailing.
His sailing career spanned from 1979 to 1995 and included representing Australia in the Finn Dinghy class at the inaugural Goodwill Games in Russia in 1986. He also competed in the 1986 America’s Cup Defence Series and served as an alternate helmsman for the Australian Olympic Yachting Team at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.
Campbell completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physical Education and Recreation) at Victoria University and was later awarded an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of his contributions to sport and the western region of Melbourne.
He went on to build an influential career in sports administration. From 1995 to 1997 he served as Chief Executive of the Melbourne Major Events Company, helping attract major international events to the city.
He later led the successful bid for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games and served as Chief Executive of the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane.
In 2002 Campbell became Chief Executive of the Western Bulldogs Football Club. Over more than eight years he oversaw a significant transformation of the club, including the redevelopment of Whitten Oval into a community hub and improvements to the club’s financial stability and membership base.
Campbell has since held senior leadership roles across government and industry, including serving as Chief Executive of VicTrack.
His induction into the Victoria University Sport Hall of Fame recognises both his achievements as an athlete and his outstanding leadership within Australian sport and major events.
