“Before I came to migration law, I was in accounting and I wanted a career change.
“Being an immigrant myself, I know the process and understand how people feel when they're seeking a visa and going through that experience, so I wanted to get into migration law to help them.
“I was looking for universities to study migration law, and other universities were offering courses purely online. I chose the
Graduate Diploma in Migration Law at VU because they offered a face-to-face option as well as online, and I wanted to have more real-life interaction.
“When you're in a classroom you can ask questions face-to-face, and I feel that did make a difference for me.”

“We met for class every Saturday and Sunday. The course structure was certainly an advantage because I was working full-time. So I was working Monday to Friday, and studying at the weekends. It definitely helped to balance work and study.
“The classes were a mix of theory and practicals, which really helps you when you finish the course to have that knowledge and understanding of how to apply it.
“The teachers were great. They had a lot of knowledge about migration law. I think that's really important when you study migration, because it’s a very sensitive area for people – so you definitely don’t want to get anything wrong.”

“Now I'm working as a registered migration agent and I'm really enjoying it. Now that I'm in this real-world situation, I think it was definitely helpful that I had so much practical learning in my course.
