Governor of Victoria honours the west with gala

After a visit to the western suburbs of Melbourne, the Governor of Victoria was so impressed by the region’s world-class achievements and sense of community she initiated an event to celebrate.

Western-suburb representatives gathered this week to celebrate the west's spirit and achievements at a gala hosted by the Governor of Victoria.

After a visit to the western suburbs of Melbourne, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC was so impressed by the region’s world-class achievements and sense of community she initiated an event to celebrate them.

Nearly 800 people attended ‘Celebrate the West’, held at Government House on 29 August.

Proud western-based organisations such as VU, the Western Bulldogs and Western Health gathered local businesses, community representatives and residents from local municipalities to join the celebration.

‘Celebrate the West’ acknowledged the strong community spirit and the achievements of extraordinary individuals – all of which have contributed to the west’s development into thriving centres of resilience, diversity and creativity.
