SWiRL stories & impact

SWiRL supports student-authored storytelling in remote NT communities, shaping literacy, teacher learning, and funding impact. Sustaining this work keeps children’s stories alive and growing.
Discover the stories created through SWiRL and the positive impact they have on students, teachers, and communities. These stories highlight culture, connection, and the shared experiences of learning and teaching in remote First Nation communities.

"It is a win/win. We love having you here; the students love it. All the students enjoy the extra attention they receive from the SWiRL group.”
Numbulwar Principal, Merryn Curley – August 2025
The storybooks
SWiRL supports the creation of culturally grounded storybooks that bring together community stories, languages and perspectives.
SWiRL storybooks
Through collaborative workshops, personalised books and bilingual storytelling, families contribute photos, stories and cultural knowledge, helping children see themselves and their world represented on the page. These storybooks not only support literacy and cultural expression but also become treasured resources that continue to enrich learning long after the program concludes.
