Presentation: Fire Safety Engineering Courses at the Centre for Environmental Safety and Risk Engineering

This event has already taken place.

Thursday 15 November 2012

Victoria University would like to invite you to attend a presentation on the courses available within the Centre for Environmental Safety and Risk Engineering.

The presentation, to be held at our Werribee campus, is open to industry partners, academics and potential students. It will provide details on the structure of the courses, the benefits to industry and the benefits to individuals through specialised study.

Presenters Maria Penagandara and Dr Khalid Moinuddin, the Centre for Environmental Safety and Risk Engineering (CESARE) course coordinator, will present on both the current courses and the developments currently underway to ensure the course content encompasses ongoing initiatives and research in engineering science and the most recent information technology.

This presentation is facilitated by CESARE in collaboration with the Structural Mechanics and Materials emerging area of research and the School of Engineering and Science.

CESARE Courses

Building Fire Safety Engineering courses constitute only one of the two suites of courses delivered in Australia that combine fire safety science, its application to fire safety engineering in building design and applying risk engineering in fire safety design.

Fire Safety Engineering can be described as a branch of engineering that uses engineering and scientific principles from a range of disciplines to enable the design of buildings and infrastructure for fire safety.

Knowledge of the behaviour of structures, heat and mass transfer, hydraulic and mechanical systems, human behaviour and fire dynamics all form an important part of this discipline of engineering.

A variety of courses are offered with several entry levels. Course objectives include:

  • knowledge of building surveying and performance-based building and fire codes
  • knowledge about fire science and technology fundamentals, apply rational engineering principles and techniques, and be able to identify cost-effective fire systems and designs for buildings.
  • develop professional and advanced technical skills in the specialist discipline of Building Fire Safety and Risk Engineering.

You can also read more about the specific benefits and outcomes related to each of the courses offered by CESARE.

Industry benefits

CESARE courses are highly regarded worldwide and many of its alumni are practicing engineers in the US, Europe, South East Asia and Middle East.

Our courses are developed in association with the Building Commission, Victoria and tailored to meet the industry needs.

Specialist Industry Training and Collaborations

Units taught within Fire Safety Engineering courses have the potential to be offered in other Engineering courses within the School of Engineering and Science. There is also an enormous potential to expand the Fire Safety Engineering teaching program at VU and in collaboration with other institutions.

CESARE welcomes the opportunity to develop specialist industry training and actively promotes collaboration with academic and industry partners.
