Victoria University has appointed The Honourable Dr Craig Emerson as an Adjunct Professor with its College of Business.
Victoria University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Dawkins said, “Craig will contribute to the planning and implementation of forums on Australian economic policy, around the theme of building a new economic reform era for the aftermath of the China Resources Boom.
“He will also provide guest lectures as part of the College of Business, and provide advice and expertise to the College of Business on strategic matters.”
Professor Peter Dawkins and Professor Colin Clarke, Dean of Business, believe that Victoria University’s students will benefit significantly from Craig’s practical experience in such areas as trade negotiations as well as broader public policy issues.
Professor Dawkins said, “This appointment will further enhance Victoria University as The University of Industry and Community. It will also help us forge even stronger connections and engagement with Asia, which is critical for us to help address important contemporary challenges for our Asian neighbours.”
Craig has had a distinguished career in politics, with his most recent appointments being as the Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research, Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Asian Century Policy and the Minister for Trade and Competitiveness, all of which he served as until his retirement from politics in 2013.
He is also an accomplished economist with a PhD from Australian National University, and has published a number of papers on a range of economic and social topics.
He is currently the Managing Director of Craig Emerson Economics, which provides economic consulting services to businesses and governments, specialising in trade relationships with businesses in the Asian region.
