VU student lives AFL dream at Hawthorn

Congratulations to Victoria University first-year student James Sicily, now a proud member of the reigning premier AFL team, the Hawthorn Hawks.

The 18-year-old Bachelor of Exercise Science and Human Movement student was announced as pick 56 at last week’s AFL national draft.

James, a Melton resident, is a versatile player who can perform at centre, on the wing, or as a lead-up forward. He was the only player from the Western Jets Football Club to be drafted to the 2014 big league.

His talent was identified early in the season when he represented Vic Metro at the National Championships.

James also showed excellent speed results at pre-draft testing, ranking forth in the 20-metre sprint with a time of 2.84 seconds.

Victoria University’s elite athlete program helps athletes like James balance study with training and competing at a professional level.

Well done James.
