Alan Fotheringham is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand (ICAANZ).

He began his career as Senior Tutor in Accounting at the University of Melbourne before accepting an offer from the then Price Waterhouse to join its Continuing Education Division. He subsequently transferred to the Audit and Business Services Division and within a relatively short time was admitted into the partnership. Alan was appointed Chairman of the ICAANZ's Recruitment Committee and was one of the 3-person national Task Force convened to revise the Professional year.

After 10 years as an Equity Partner, he accepted an approach from a client to take responsibility for upgrading and integrating systems across multiple sites in Australia and New Zealand. With all systems bedded-down, Alan resigned to develop his growing interest in risk management. He remains the only consultant to have led two reviews of the efficiency and effective of VAGO on behalf of the Parliament.

Over the past few years Alan has been a sessional member of the academic staff at Monash University teaching final year students Advanced Financial Accounting and Auditing and Assurance.
