Overview

The Art major will develop a deeper understanding of visual arts knowledge essential for primary teaching specialisation in this curriculum learning area. The units address individual art making and content knowledge of fine art history and theory. Working closely with professional artists, undertaking this major will allow you to conceive, produce and evaluate artworks incorporating methodologies of painting, drawing, installation, digital art and photography. Art theoretical content, discourse and research of significant artists will encourage rigorous critical analytical and interpretative thinking about art and develop the capacity to apply creative thinking and innovation broadly. During the major you will engage with the wider visual arts community and workplace exhibiting works, visiting exhibitions and writing reviews.

Unit set structure

For a major study students must complete 96 credit points of study comprising:

  • 24 credit points (2) Curriculum and Pedagogy units;
  • 72 credit points (6) Specialist Area units.
