In this unit, pre-service teachers undertake a period of professional practice that exposes them to working with young children and families within long day care services. Pre-service teachers complete a 15-day professional placement with children aged from Birth – 2 years. The unit develops advanced professional practice for pre-service teachers working with infants and toddlers. Students integrate relationship-based pedagogy, inclusive curriculum design and contemporary child-safe requirements to support babies’ learning, wellbeing and rights. Through placement-connected learning, scenario analysis and reflective professional inquiry, students develop the skills to plan, document, supervise and lead ethically in complex early childhood settings. Particular attention is given to dignity in everyday routines, culturally safe practice and regulatory responsibilities, including mandatory reporting.
