Office 365 for students
As a VU student, you can download and install Office 365 ProPlus for free on up to 5 personal computers/devices after logging in to your email account.
Supported devices
The Office 365 ProPlus software is available as part of the Microsoft Student Advantage program and can be accessed on the following computers/devices:
- Office 365 ProPlus for PC/Windows
- Office 365 ProPlus for Mac
- Office mobile for iPhone
- Office mobile for Android.
Once installed, you can use Office 365 offline or online.
Office 365 for PC/Windows
On a PC you can use the following products:
- Word
- Excel
- Powerpoint
- OneNote
- Access
- Publisher
- Outlook
- Lync
- InfoPath
- OneDrive.
Download & install instructions
Use the following instructions to install on a PC, or download the PC/Windows instructions with screenshots (PDF, 256.3 KB).
- Navigate to www.vu.edu.au/studentmail.
- Log-in with your username: s<student number>@live.vu.edu.au (e.g. ).
- Click on the Settings icon in the top right corner, and then select Office 365 settings.
- Click Software in the left menu.
- Select your desired language.
- If you are installing Office for Windows, Microsoft recommends using the 32-bit installation. Select Advanced if you wish to install the 64-bit version instead.
- Click Install to download and install the latest version of Office.
- When prompted to Run or Save the setup, select Run. Otherwise you can save, and run the setup later.
- Click Yes on the User Account Control.
- Click Next on the welcome screen.
- Enter your student email address and click Next.
- Select Organisational account.
- Enter your student email password and click Sign in.
- Office will connect to your student email account.
- Select Next.
- Select Use recommended settings and then click Accept.
- Select Next.
- Click Next on the 'Meet OneDrive' screen.
- Choose an Office background and click Next.
- Select Take a look to see the introduction or choose No thanks.
- Click All done!
Office 365 for Mac
On a Mac you can use the following products:
- Word Excel
- Powerpoint
- Outlook
- OneDrive.

- Navigate to www.vu.edu.au/studentmail.
- Log-in with your username: s<student number>@live.vu.edu.au (e.g. ).
- Click on the Settings icon in the top right corner, and then select Office 365 settings.
- Click Software in the left menu.
- Select your desired language.
- If you are installing Office for Windows, Microsoft recommends using the 32-bit installation. Select Advanced if you wish to install the 64-bit version instead.
- Click Install to download and install the latest version of Office.
- When prompted Save the setup DMG file. Double Click the DMG file.
- Click Office Installer
- Click Continue on the welcome screen.
- Click Continue
- Click Continue
- Select Install
- Enter your MAC username and password
- Click Close
- Select Sign in to existing Office 365 subscription
- Enter your Student Email address, Click Next
- Select Organisational account
- Enter your student email password and Click Sign In
- Enter First Name, Last Name and Click Continue
- Select your preference in options
- Select Done
Office 365 ProPlus licence
Students currently enrolled at Victoria University are eligible for the Office 365 ProPlus Licence. To keep the software activated, you must connect to the internet at least once every 30 days.
Once you have graduated, the Office 365 ProPlus licence will expire. You can remove a licence from a computer via the Office 365 Settings > Software page.
