Student assessment
The student assessment and progress policy defines the framework for the conduct of assessment at VU.
You can have the support of a student adviser when appealing or requesting a review of your assessment. In the first instance, such requests can be made with your teacher, unit of study coordinator/module leader or course coordinator/program manager.
Student progress
VU provides support for your academic progress to help you successfully complete your studies.
If you are failing assignments or not meeting attendance requirements, you should contact your teacher to discuss a plan to get back on track with your studies.
This is in accordance with the Student assessment and progress policy.
If you have failed half your units, or a core unit more than twice, you will be called to attend a meeting with your course coordinator/program manager. You have two opportunities to meet one-on-one. If you continue to make unsatisfactory progress, you will be called to attend a progress hearing.
A student adviser can help you prepare for your meeting with your course coordinator/program manager. At your request, a student adviser can speak on your behalf at a progress hearing.
Students should read the student progress policy frequently asked questions and letter guide for Higher Education (HE) students or Vocational Education (VE) and Further Education (FE) students.
Discipline
If you have been called to attend a discipline hearing a student adviser can help you prepare and attend the hearing with you as your representative. You can make individual casework appointments with a student adviser to discuss confidential issues regarding discipline.
Plagiarism
The Academic honesty and preventing plagiarism policy defines how VU deals with the unauthorised, unacknowledged and/or the improper use of the intellectual work of others. This can include cutting and pasting from the web, books or journals without acknowledging the source, or word for word copying of other students' work.
If allegations of plagiarism or academic dishonesty are made against you, please contact the Student Advisory Service for advice and support.
