Disability services and support
We have Disability Liaison Officers who can:
- help you identify ways to reduce the impact of your disability on your studies
- assist with alternative assessments and exams
- assess and provide software and adaptive technologies to assist you with your studies
- communicate with your teachers and course coordinators, exam staff and external agencies.
Below are some of the ways we can help you.
Alternative assessment arrangements
- adjusted or alternative assessment tasks where necessary
- Auslan interpreters or scribes in tests/exams
- extensions for assignments
- extra time for exams
- special seating arrangements
Campus library access
- accessible work stations
- referrals to a contact librarian
Course adjustments
- allowing classes to be audio taped
- alternative format course materials (eg. enlarged print, Braille, electronic files)
- assessing practical placement requirements
- Auslan interpreters, note-takers, readers and scribes in class
- inclusive teaching methods
- negotiating alternative arrangements
- providing copies of overheads/notes
Disability resource rooms (St Albans and Footscray Park campuses)
- braille printer
- closed Circuit TV to magnify reading material
- PCs with large screen monitors, scanners, printers and accessible work stations
- screen reading and magnifying software (eg. JAWS, Texthelp Read and Write Gold)
- speech recognition and word prediction specialised software (eg. Dragon Naturally Speaking)
Specialised equipment
- alpha Smart portable note taker devices
- ergonomic chairs
- note taker audio recorders
- portable audio loops
- PC peripherals such as key guards, anti-glare screen cover, track balls, whale mice
