Eligibility requirements

Most courses at VU have specific eligibility requirements. This section provides information on ATAR scores, Recognition of Prior Learning, Credit transfer, Learning pathways and special access schemes that may provide you with other ways to study the course you want to.

VTAC clearly in data

You can view the 2011 semester one clearly-in ATAR scores for undergraduate degree courses at VU at the VTAC CourseSearch. Select "Universities" as the Institution type and "Victoria University" as the Institution for a full list, or you can search for a particular course.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) is an assessment process that applies to individuals who may have prior study, or other relevant experience, but who do not have access to credit transfer arrangements for the chosen course.

The RPL/RCC process recognises previous study by matching learning that has been achieved through study, life and work experience against learning that would be covered in specific subjects or modules.

Students are encouraged to discuss possible RPL/RCC applications with the course co-ordinator at enrolment.

Learn more about study pathways or apply for RPL.

AQF - certificates, diplomas

We are registered with the Australian Qualifications Framework (commonly known as the AQF).

The AQF recognises education institutions and qualifications that supports national standards in education and training and encourages lifelong learning.  It allows you to progress easily from one level of study to the next, and even from one institution to another as long as you satisfy other student entry and visa requirements.  Visit the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) website for more information.

Credit transfer

Credit transfer recognises a course or courses that a student has previously undertaken and enables the student to gain credit in another course. If eligible, students may receive exemptions from parts of the new course for units they have already studied.

Students who believe that they may be eligible for credit transfer are encouraged to discuss possible applications with the course co-ordinator at enrolment, and should apply for it when they have enrolled.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

If you are currently undertaking or have undertaken previous post-secondary study (TAFE or higher education) you will be considered on your performance in these studies. Courses that use the VTAC calculated Grade Point Average (GPA) for selection purposes are identified in the individual course entries of the VTAC Guide. For more information, refer to the VTAC Guide (available from newsagents) or www.vtac.edu.au.

Courses that list GPA consider this in combination with the other selection criteria listed in the course entry and the entire available academic record.

Learning pathways

If you have successfully completed another course, you should check the Learning pathways database to see if there are any credits from your previous course that could be recognised in the course that you are interested in.

Special access schemes

If you have a disability or medical condition, you are an Indigenous Australian, or your life circumstances have had a detrimental effect on your education, we may be able to assist you with your application. Please see Special access schemes or Indigenous Australian applicants for details.

International students

If you are an international student, you may be offered a place if you meet the International entry requirements, including the English language requirements and academic requirements.
