Australian asylum seeker policy - a discussion with Julian Burnside AO QC

This event has already taken place.

Thursday 15 May 2014

All students, staff and members of the community are invited to join us for a discussion about Australian asylum seeker policy, led by Julian Burnside AO QC.

The discussions currently surrounding Human Rights and Asylum Seekers are highly relevant social issues, even more so in very recent times in relation to the death of Reza Barati in an Australian detention centre on Manus Island.

Julian Burnside AO QC is a prominent Australian barrister specialising in public and commercial law. Julian is a vocal advocate of human rights and is working towards a humane approach to Australian Refugee Policy.

Gabriel Auyen, a Victoria University student, will also speak at the event. He will be sharing his journey from war-torn South Sudan to Australia.

Light refreshments will be provided. No need to RSVP - just show up!
