Open Access: Enhancing research visibility

VU Library would like to invite you to attend a forum exploring developments in Open Access publishing.

A key presentation will be given by Dr Danny Kingsley, Executive Officer of the Australian Open Access Support Group (AOASG) of which Victoria University Library is a foundation member. Dr Kingsley will revisit the five major myths surrounding open access publishing including:

  • misconceptions around quality
  • lack of peer review
  • pay-to-publish models
  • the challenges related to copyright.

An advocate for open access, she will also discuss the role of the AOASG, developments around mandates and compliance in addition to outlining developments in open access monograph publishing.

Following her presentation, Dr Danny Kingsley will answer questions about issues around open access.

The program also includes:

  • an overview of Open Access (OA) and some of the issues facing Universities
  • the impact of OA on publishers and publishing models
  • an overview of copyright aspects of OA
  • an exploration of OA and education resources.
