Diversity and discrimination (film launch)

This event has already taken place.

Thursday 20 June 2013

Part of the 2013 Diamond Series, Sarah Tartakover will launch her film Classroom conversations around culture.

The film explores the experiences and insights of a group of pre-service teachers in their final year of a teaching degree at Victoria University. As they undertake their primary school practicum in Melbourne's western suburbs, they are invited to explore their cultural identity, and in doing so, to consider how best to create classrooms which value cultural identity.

Author and illustrator Shaun Tan and College of Education staff share their reflections as well. Their narratives inspire a cavalcade of ideas around culture, diversity, identity and race to ponder and discuss.

The film is intended as a resource to generate discussion amongst educators, teaching staff and the wider community.

Join the conversation with those involved in the film over supper and drinks after the screening.
