Welding for beginners

Are you interested in learning basic welding techniques for your DIY home projects or as an introduction to further studies or employment opportunities? Learn the basic principles in welding processes including using gas (Mig) and manual metal arc (Stick) welding, tungsten inert gas welding (Tig) and some basic oxy cutting techniques.

This course will be delivered through a combination of a classroom theory component followed by practical activities in our well-equipped welding workshop. You will learn through the creation of your own useful projects, for the home or for recreation, selected by yourself on enrolment.

Requirements:
It is compulsory for all candidates to wear steel capped boots and cotton drill full sleeved overalls or similar long sleeve protective clothing.

The following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required:

  • Welding Gloves
  • Safety Glasses
  • Welding Face Shield

Participants can either bring this PPE or purchase a kit on enrolment for $25.

Upon Completion:

Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for two units of competency from the Certificate II in engineering qualification:

  • MEM05013C - Perform Manual Production Welding
  • MEM05007C Perform Manual Heating and Thermal Cutting
