VU students best in beauty

VU’s beauty therapy students have taken out the top three places in the Beauty Therapy Victorian Regional WorldSkills competition.

The WorldSkills Australia national regional competitions, in which apprentices, trainees and students under the age of 23 compete to test their skills and knowledge, are held biennially across 31 regions.

The following VU beauty therapy students were awarded the top three medals in the Beauty Therapy Victorian Regional WorldSkills competition:

  • Stephanie Kotsos – gold medallist
  • Jenifer Nguyen – silver medallist
  • Naomi Roche – bronze medallist.

VU also placed in the Beauty Therapy Country Regional competitions with a bronze medal awarded to Tiana Cannolo.

This year's event saw students from across Victoria compete against each other in a series of tests designed by industry experts.

The students' skills were judged according to strict assessment criteria in delivering:

  • facials
  • French manicures
  • make-up
  • waxing
  • brow
  • lash tinting.

Regional gold medallist, Stephanie Kotsos, will go on to compete in the October 2016 National Competition for the chance to win the coveted title of Australia’s best in the beauty therapy field. If she succeeds, she will be set to compete in the 2017 international competition in Abu Dhabi.
