VU hosts launch of Victoria Tourism Week

Victoria University will host the launch of the inaugural Victoria Tourism Week, an event designed to highlight the social and economic contribution of tourism to the state.

The launch will be held at the conclusion of the University's 17th annual Hospitality, Tourism and Events Expo on Friday 3 September at its City Flinders Campus.

The expo is the major annual careers' forum for VU students aiming for a tourism, hospitality or events profession. It will bring together exhibitors from a wide cross-section of industry, including QANTAS, Sofitel Melbourne, Tourism Victoria, Crown Hotels, Disney International and Tennis Australia.

Barry Broons, manager for VU's Centre for Work Integrated Learning, said hosting the formal launch of Victoria Tourism Week helped VU position itself as a leading player within the industry.

Victorian Tourism Week will be held from 6-11 September. It is the first time members of the state tourism industry will come together to identify ways to improve the quality of the visitor experience, encourage Victorians to get out and about, and identify meaningful career paths for people who work in the industry.
