VU alumnus shines a light

Victoria University alumnus John Thompson is helping save lives this Christmas in his latest campaign as senior marketing manager for the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).

Shine a Light on Road Trauma will encourage Victorian drivers to turn on their headlights on Thursday December 10, as a symbol of their commitment to safe driving and to commemorate those who have lost their lives on our roads.

Mr Thompson has been leading the Transport Accident Commission's marketing campaigns since 2004 and was named Marketer of the Year at the Australian Marketing Institute held in October 2009.

December 10th marks 20 years since the first TAC advertisement was broadcast to help reduce road trauma. Over that time, 8263 people have been killed and more than 130,000 seriously injured on Victorian roads.

The TAC's public education campaigns in partnership with Victoria Police and Arrive Alive partners have seen the state's road toll drop by half since the campaigns started.

The TAC has invited Victoria University to get behind the initiative and help reduce the Christmas season  road toll.
