Creatures of the Night

Victoria University’s specialist make-up students presented their extraordinary skills to more than 500 guests as they transformed volunteer models into fantasy characters for their graduation project.

The Makeup Carnivale is the highlight for students in VU’s widely respected year-long Diploma of Specialist Make-Up course.

VIPs and industry guests mixed with friends and family who came to the gala event at Crown Casino to marvel at the creativity and talent of the graduating class.

The students spent hundreds of hours fashioning wigs, constructing prostheses, designing costumes, and applying body and face make-up to create every aspect of their fictional, historical or real-life characters.

Rachael Boler won Student of the Year while the Encouragement award went to Sarah Simic.

This year’s sponsors were Scotty’s Makeup & Beauty, and VU Alumni.

VU's Diploma of Specialist Make-Up Services equips students with the range of specialist skills required for a future as a make-up artist – be it photographic, theatre, period, special effects, television, film or fashion.

It is the only make-up course in Australia to encompass fashion and the arts and offer a direct pathway into hairdressing.

The University has strong relationships within fashion and creative arts, giving students the opportunity for incredible work experiences. Our students have gained experience on the following productions:

  • Australia’s Got Talent
  • Neighbours
  • Melbourne-based movie and theatre work
  • New York Fashion Week.
