Thursday 23 October 2014

Professor Pat Drake, Dean, College of Education, invites you to participate in the 2014 Diamond Series.

In this seminar, Professor Nicola Yelland will discuss the impact of tablet technologies on learning in the early years of schooling.

The introduction of the iPad in 2010 has significantly impacted on the way people interact with new technologies in their everyday lives. Here, Nicole will share examples from a 2 year study of using iPads with children in Kindergarten and the first year of school (Preparatory) to illustrate the ways in which tablets afford opportunities for teaching and learning that were previously not possible.

The discussion will be framed around the question 'Are schools taking advantage of new technologies to extend learning in the 21st century or are they being used indifferently to prop up heritage curricula?'.
