Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge to undertake a project with guidance. It requires the ability to determine a simple proposal for a project, plan, carry out the project and review the outcome/s under the guidance of an appropriate support person. This unit is designed for learners who wish to develop their literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills through practical application in an activity or around a specific content area as part of a project. Learners at this level may request support and begin to develop their own support resources.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • gather and engage with information
  • use simple sentences of one or two clauses and key vocabulary to document simple project plan
  • discuss project requirements with support person and/or other participants
  • ask and respond to questions and take turns to maintain discussion
  • complete tasks or activities as part of a project.
  • gather required resources
  • locate information for the project
  • complete tasks according to agreed plan
  • plan and follow steps to complete a project according to timeframes
  • use digital devices and tools
  • use digital devices safely
  • access and use digital information to plan and complete the project

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:

  • personal benefits of project participation in relation to own learning and development
  • potential factors which contribute to the success or otherwise of the project
  • purpose of a project plan for a successful project outcome.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
