Overview

This unit introduces students to the debates, policies, design and delivery of sexual health education. Students will critically examine the history and evolution of sexual health education from a local to global context taking into account the diversity of peoples and populations. The unit situates sexual health education policy and delivery within a broader human rights framework. Students will be equipped to design and deliver an innovative sexual health education plan that responds to the 21st century needs of diverse populations. The unit prepares students to advocate for sex-positive, pleasure-centric sexual health education curriculum and policies.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate knowledge of sexual health education history, debates and policies taking into consideration diverse audiences and a sex-positive, pleasure-centric approach to a broad range of sexual health topics;
  2. Critically evaluate sexual health education curriculum and programs considering divergent and complex ethnicities, societies and cultures;
  3. Advocate for inclusive sex-positive, pleasure-centric sexual health education policies and strategies which promote equity in sexual health within a human rights framework; and
  4. Design and deliver a high-quality, innovative and comprehensive relationships and sexuality education plan that is sex-positive and pleasure-centric for a diverse audience.
