Overview

Project managers today face ill-defined and complex problems. Success in modern project management requires mastery of crucial skills including problem identification, evidence-based research, and clear communication of findings. This unit enables students to undertake and report on applied research that addresses real-world project management challenges, developing their ability to critically evaluate problems and propose effective solutions. Students will apply and synthesise knowledge to investigate a contemporary research problem and report on findings and conclusions, contributing to evidence-based project management scholarship.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Justify an appropriate project management research methodology based on a selected research problem;
  2. Evaluate and implement systematic research processes in their specialised area;
  3. Critically review relevant project management literature;
  4. Implement appropriate methods to collect and analyse data and interpret project outcomes and contributions to project management evidence base;
  5. Conduct an independent research project under supervision with a high level of personal autonomy and accountability; and
