Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge to develop and review progress towards own learning goals. It requires the ability to determine own current skills and identify steps towards achieving learning goals. This unit applies to learners who wish to develop personal, learning, employment and/or community participation goals. At this level, the learner will work with a support person when developing learning goals and record progress using an established format requiring one or two dot points or sentences.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit’s learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • take turns to maintain simple discussion about learning goals and potential issues in achieving them
  • ask and respond to questions about learning goals
  • discuss strategies to achieve learning goals
  • draw on own experiences to identify current skills and learning goals
  • implement steps to work towards learning goals
  • use digital devices and tools for learning
  • use digital devices safely
  • access digital resources to support
  • implementation of learning goals and/or review progress

Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:

  • different types of goals such as personal and work
  • difference between long and short term goals
  • sources of additional support and resources to work towards learning goals
  • learning strategies to support achievement of goals.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
