Blak Healing – Policy & Practice

In this unit students critically examine the historical and contemporary impacts on Indigenous women and their families of praxical violence that is reproduced and experienced through institutional systems and programs. Institutions are scrutinised as instruments of colonial power and colonial violence that inform the ways of doing and knowing framed in the concepts and practices of assimilation, displacement, race, identity, and the contemporary legacies of past practice. The unit centres Indigenous women’s life experiences and voices to explore epistemic justice focussing on Indigenous community-led healing and cultural practices that intervene to decolonise systems and push boundaries to make meaningful institutional policy and practice change.
