Supplying a mentor program success

VU’s Supply Chain Management Industry Mentor Program is helping students by broadening their industry knowledge.

Victoria University took out the top prize for its Supply Chain Management Industry Mentor Program, in the Training, Education & Development category, at the 2012 Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards.

The Mentor Program promotes excellence, develops leadership and initiative, and strongly supports career development, whilst nurturing talent for the future of the SCM industry.

It was developed by VU’s Dr John Hopkins and Peter Folino, and pairs undergraduate and postgraduate supply chain management students with seasoned industry professionals. The voluntary program helps students broaden their industry knowledge and ideas, enable professional network development, and improve their confidence in their ability to transition from university to working life.

Launched in 2011 with a total of six industry mentors and nine student mentees, the program includes partner organisations as Linfox; Kraft; Fosters; QR National; Damco; ANL; Sugar Australia; Myer; Coynes Freight Management Group; and Armaguard.

In October 2012, the Supply Chain & Logistics Association of Australia also recognised VU’s Mentor Program with its 2012 Victorian Training, Education and Development Award.
