National award-winning VU alumnus Karthikeyan Vaitheeswaran is a quiet achiever. 

"I was finishing up my MBA when I heard about the tsunami that hit much of the coast of India, including around Chennai where I grew up. I knew I had to help.

After completing my studies I returned to India and joined the Tsunami Relief and Rehabilitation Program in Chennai. I taught courses on micro-enterprise development to women and young people eager to restart their businesses.

I’m now a project officer for the International Labor Organization working on a vocational training program for tsunami survivors. My MBA taught me how to apply management principles and concepts to my work.

I was recognised at the 2011 Australian Alumni Excellence Awards held in Chennai. The awards honour alumni who have attained exemplary achievements in their field or contributed to the betterment of Australian education and their institution or alumni community."
