Leading by endeavour
Head of School (Engineering and Science) Dr Iwona Miliszewska is VU's first Endeavour Executive Award winner.
"I nearly deleted the email that told me I had won my Endeavour Executive Award. It was a one liner, which read: 'Please find attached an important letter from the Hon Julia Gillard.'
Thanks to the $20,000 Award I spent five weeks embedded in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, whose profile and activities align with those of my School.
I identified successful initiatives and strategies of the host Department, evaluated their relevance and feasibility to my School, and developed a set of recommendations for adoption and implementation.
The most exciting aspect of the award was its combination of high-profile recognition for my achievements and the unique opportunity to further develop my educational leadership skills in an international context.
It's nice to be a pioneer; it is the first ever Endeavour Executive Award for the University, and I am thrilled to be the first VU winner.
For me, VU is the place to be."
