Empowering the young
VU's flexible pathway options have allowed Cat Batty to pursue work in community services.
"I was unable to get into the degree course I wanted after finishing school so I enrolled in the Diploma of Youth Work at VU. I was then able to pathway into the degree with credits.
I was thrilled that the teachers demonstrated a real passion for youth work. They were extremely knowledgeable and always encouraged me.
VU support through its Concurrent Assistance program helped me to write essays. But on a larger scale there are passionate teachers with the aim of engaging students and seeing them succeed.
I am passionate about young people and their involvement in politics. I am also interested in suicide prevention and mental health issues for young people.
It is hard studying full time due to the low income, but I remain focused on the idea that this is my positive way out of all the harmful paths I could have taken myself."
