Counting his blessings

Victorian State Treasurer Kim Wells enrolled as a VU accounting student almost 40 years ago.

"I have a particular pride in VU and am incredibly grateful for what it’s given me.

I started my accounting studies in 1975 at the then-Footscray Institute of Technology – now Victoria University – and have had a strong association with VU ever since.

I did my Masters degree in Accounting and Finance over nine years because I had gone into politics. My supervisor was amazingly supportive.

I treasure every second I’m in government and know that my position today has a lot to do with the strong background in accounting and economics I received at VU. Bringing down a budget isn’t easy – we make some difficult decisions but we don’t take them lightly.

I was obviously humbled when recognised as VU’s first distinguished alumnus because the achievements of many other people are just as worthy."
