Office for Postgraduate Research

The Office for Postgraduate Research provides research training to support research students and supervisors. We are committed to developing a dynamic research community, with high levels of student satisfaction and quality supervision. We aim to inspire students to set new standards and achieve success in a supportive learning environment.

We oversee the delivery of research degrees and work closely with higher education Faculties, research institutes and centres to provide opportunities for specialised and cross-disciplinary research that is recognised in Australia and overseas.

Postgraduate Research Committee

The Postgraduate Research Committee is responsible for:

  • the approval of topics of investigation and appointment of supervisors and the admission of applications for candidature for higher degrees by research
  • monitoring and approving practices and procedures for the registration of supervisors and enrolment of research students and the satisfactory progress of candidates
  • monitoring the approval and progress of candidature, changes to such candidature and approval of examination and classification of theses
  • the award of graduate scholarships and prizes
  • overseeing and implementation of strategic policy and quality assurance procedures relating to postgraduate research training, including skills training for supervisors and research students

If you are a research student at VU, you may be eligible for financial support under the Australian Government Commercialisation Training Scheme.  The scheme supports high quality research commercialisation training for the next generation of Australian researchers. The application form 2009 - Round 3 for commencement in 2010 is now available.
