Entry requirements

Victoria University (VU) can offer you a place in a course if you meet the English language and academic entry requirements.

The entry requirements below apply to most international courses. Some courses may have additional entry requirements, including specific subject prerequisites or higher English language requirements. Use the information on this page to check if you are eligible for the course you want to study.

English language requirements

To get into a course you need to show that you have the required level of English language. The table below is a general guide to the level of proficiency required for entry into different levels.

In some circumstances we will accept test results from other methods of examination not listed in this table. For more information, contact Victoria University International (VUI).

 If you fail to meet the English language requirements, contact VUI for an assessment of:

  • your pathway options from courses in Vocational or Further Education through to Undergraduate and postgraduate; or
  • your eligibility to receive a conditional offer of a place until you meet the requirements.

If you successfully complete a course at Victoria University's English Language Institute (ELI) you do not have to submit additional evidence of your English language proficiency. Although you may be asked to sit an IELTS test for some selected courses, even if you have studied at ELI.

Vocational or further education entry requirements

Certificates

For entry into certificate courses you are generally required to have completed a secondary school qualification equivalent to the Australian Year 11. VU may assess any relevant work experience, work samples or other documentation submitted with your application depending on the course.

Diplomas

Entry into a diploma course requires you to have successfully completed twelve years of schooling to the level of higher secondary education in your home country.

Undergraduate entry requirements

Bachelor courses

Entry into undergraduate courses (e.g. bachelor degree) generally requires you to have completed a secondary school qualification equivalent to an Australian Year 12.

Entry into an honours degree require completion of a relevant bachelor degree with a high level of academic achievement.

Postgraduate entry requirements

Graduate certificates

Entry into a graduate certificate requires you to have completed:

  • a relevant bachelor degree, or
  • a diploma and significant work-experience in an appropriate field.

Graduate diplomas

Entry into a graduate diploma requires you to have completed:

  • a relevant bachelor degree, or
  • a diploma and significant work-experience in an appropriate field, or
  • a graduate certificate.

Master degrees

Entry into a masters degree requires you to have completed an undergraduate qualification that is comparable to an Australian bachelor degree or graduate diploma.

Research programs

Entry into a research program requires completion of:

  • an honours degree, or
  • a masters degree by coursework with a research component, or
  • an equivalent qualification from an approved university.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and credit transfer

You may receive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in a course, either because you have covered the work in other studies or have undertaken relevant employment activities.

Credit transfer enables you to gain credit in another course for study that you have previously undertaken.
