Victoria University's School of Sport and Exercise Science provides academic programs for everyone who wants to study any aspect of sport. The range of undergraduate and research degrees provide the opportunity to get the foundation training in sport from bachelor degrees to PhD level research. School staff are also involved in research that contributes to all aspects of the sport and exercise industries.

Undergraduate Degrees
The School of Sport and Exercise Science has been offering programs in Exercise Science, Physical Education and Sport and Recreation Management since 1974.Its commitment to career and training pathways means that students can begin their career in Vocational Education and may proceed to Higher Education degrees. We offer undergraduate degrees in:
Sport and Recreation Management
Exercise Science & Human Movement
We also offer double degrees that incorporate courses in Psychology, Business and Youth Work.
Post Graduate and Honours Research
The School of Sport and Exercise Science has a rich and vibrant research culture that is internationally recognised with its large group of academic research scholars, post doctoral fellows, post graduate and honours students. Research students maybe affiliated with the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Active Living (ISEAL). Research degree options include all aspects of sport and recreation, exercise science, and physical education. Course work degrees are available in exercise rehabilitation, clinical exercise, MBA (sport specialisation) and Master of Applied Psychology (Sport).
Careers in Sport and Exercise Science
People who work in sport and fitness jobs are working in the "good news" business of helping people have fun, be healthy and achieve the best in sport performance. Victoria University's sport graduates are involved in all aspects of the sport industry. They are involved in working in community programs and activities through to major events such as the Olympics. Victoria University's sport graduates are engaged in direct sport program delivery and behind the scenes in management for organisations as small as local community centres through to the Australian Institute of Sport and professional sporting clubs.
Community Engagement
The School's international expertise is recognised through our staff engagement in innovative research projects, teaching programs and industry and community services. Our staff may provide their expertise as board members, coaches, advisors, editors, contractors, program and conference organisers and invited guest speakers.
School students are also engaged through their work with international, state and local industry and community organisations. Students work independently through their career and professional development placements and in team environments where units or programs are directly linked with organisations to provide industry services.
Learning in the Workplace and community
The School places strong emphasis on Learning in the Workplace and Community (LIWC) experiences. The School, staff and students collaborate with commercial and community organisations to provide services and learning in work settings.
These experiences occur as class based projects, individual student placements and special opportunities through arrangements with strategic partners. Students apply for cadetships and internships to work with organisations such as:
- the Western Bulldogs,
- the Western Jets,
- municipal councils,
- sporting organisations and
- schools like Maribyrnong Sport College.
All of the School's undergraduate students are involved in a range of career placements where they gain valuable career development training and on-the-job experience that helps them establish their career, while doing their course. Industry partners can also register projects that need students' assistance through a placement.
International
The School has premier partnerships with universities in Canada, USA, UK, and Germany. These partnerships set the scene for student exchanges and collaborative research that incorporate a global perspective in the School's courses and research activities.
Exercise Science and Sport Precinct
Victoria University's new $68 million Sport and Learning Precinct offers a world class environment for sport and exercise research and teaching, with state of the art facilities including a high altitude hotel and an enormous bio-mechanics laboratory and heat chamber to name just a few. The building provides a first rate setting for the University's expertise in sport and exercise research and teaching. Research is currently underway within the buildings 26 laboratories with organisations ranging from the Victorian and Australian Institutes of Sport, community groups that focus on public health and education, and professional sporting teams.
Elite Athlete Friendly University
At Victoria University we recognise the challenges of combining elite sport with an academic workload which is why we are a member of the Australian Sports Commission's Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) network. Our Athlete Assistance Program aims have you undertake studies successfully at University while continuing to train and participate in sport at an elite level. The combined focus of academic excellence with elite sport performance supports students to achieve success at all levels.
