Education

Our courses in the School of Education provide students with flexible career outcomes, with an emphasis on learning in workplaces and community settings. Through educational partnerships with local schools, community organisations and industry - especially in Melbourne's western region - students experience valuable workplace learning environments and use this experience as the basis for their learning at VU.

Our philosophy

Learners and their needs are the central focus of the practices of the School of Education. We value our students, partners and staff and their learning and well-being. We place high importance on diversity and creativity in culture and life, and on collaborative action, as these values stimulate inquiry, strengthen learning and support inclusive and democratic practices. Learning partnerships in a wide range of community settings drive our learning and teaching programs, and research and development initiatives.

Project partnerships

Project Partnerships are the basis for a pre-service teacher's developing practice within the Bachelor of Education and the Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education program at VU. This enables pre-service teachers to express responsibility for school students and their learning while working with mentor teachers on a curriculum project or initiative. They provide:

  • opportunities for curriculum inquiry
  • curriculum development and teaching practice for preservice teachers
  • understanding of teaching in their major general studies

You can find more information regarding the specific partnerships of the School of Education at Project Partnerships.
